## Report on the Indian Institutes of Management Amendment Rules, 2022 **1. Executive Summary:** This report analyzes the Indian Institutes of Management Amendment Rules, 2022, as published in the Gazette of India on April 20, 2022. The amendment modifies the Indian Institutes of Management Rules, 2018. The key change involves an alteration to Rule 7, specifically related to clause (ii), which appears to concern a numerical threshold, changing "sixty five" to "seventy." This suggests a change in a minimum qualification or requirement within the IIM system. The amendment is expected to impact the eligibility criteria or composition of a specific body or process within the Indian Institutes of Management. **2. Introduction:** This report aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the Indian Institutes of Management Amendment Rules, 2022, based solely on the text of the notification published in the Gazette of India. The analysis focuses on the specific changes introduced by the amendment and their potential implications. **3. Policy Overview:** * **Original Policy Being Amended:** The Indian Institutes of Management Rules, 2018, originally published on December 6, 2018. * **Core Objective(s):** The original policy likely aimed to govern the operations and management of the Indian Institutes of Management. However, without the full text of the original policy, we can only infer this objective from the amending rules. **4. Background and Rationale:** The amendment appears to address a specific issue within the existing Indian Institutes of Management Rules, 2018. The modification of Rule 7, clause (ii), from "sixty five" to "seventy" suggests a change to a numerical threshold or minimum requirement. The reason for this change is not explicitly stated, but it can be inferred that this amendment is in response to requirements or changes concerning eligibility criteria or composition of a specific body or process within the Indian Institutes of Management. **5. Key Provisions / Changes:** This section focuses specifically on the changes introduced by the Indian Institutes of Management Amendment Rules, 2022: * **Specific Part of the Original Policy Being Changed:** Rule 7, sub-rule 1, clause (i) is omitted. Clause (ii) is also modified. * **New Rule/Provision:** Clause (i) is omitted. In clause (ii), the words "sixty five" are substituted with "seventy". * **Difference/Effect of the Change:** The change modifies a numerical value, possibly related to a minimum age, experience, or score. The omission of clause (i) could be a deletion of a position. The increase from "sixty five" to "seventy" suggests a stricter or adjusted standard for whatever the original rule governed. **6. Target Audience and Stakeholders:** Based on the provided text, the target audience includes individuals or entities directly affected by Rule 7 of the Indian Institutes of Management Rules, 2018. This likely encompasses faculty, administrators, board members, or applicants to IIM programs. **7. Implementation Aspects (Inferred):** * **Responsible Agency/Bodies:** The Central Government, specifically the Ministry of Education, Department of Higher Education, is responsible for implementing and overseeing these changes. * **Timelines/Procedures:** The amendment came into force on the date of its publication in the Official Gazette (April 20, 2022). * **Amendment-Specific Implementation:** The specific changes require the immediate application of the revised Rule 7 in all relevant processes and procedures within the Indian Institutes of Management. **8. Expected Outcomes / Impact of Changes:** The intended outcome of these changes is likely to adjust some criteria within the IIM system. The increase in the threshold within Rule 7, clause (ii) could refine the pool of eligible candidates. Without more context, the exact impact is difficult to ascertain, but it likely has a direct effect on eligibility and application. **9. Conclusion:** The Indian Institutes of Management Amendment Rules, 2022, introduces changes to Rule 7 of the Indian Institutes of Management Rules, 2018. The modification of clause (ii), changing "sixty five" to "seventy," represents a key adjustment to potentially impacting individuals or entities affected by the IIM management rules. This change has implications for various stakeholders within the IIM system, particularly those involved in application and eligibility within Indian Institutes of Management. Further clarification of the original rule is needed to fully understand the impact of the amendment.
