GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF HEAVY INDUSTRIES RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 2333 ANSWERED ON 07.08.2026 INSTALLATION OF ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING STATIONS 2333. SHRI SANT BALBIR SINGH: Will the Minister of Heavy Industries be pleased to state: (a) the number of electric vehicle charging stations installed in each State and Union Territory during the last five years; (b) the details of these stations categorised into fast-charging and slow-charging; (c) the agencies responsible for installing them (public sector, private sector or State implementing agencies); and (d) the number of charging stations installed under FAME-I, FAME-II and any other Central Government schemes in Punjab? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR HEAVY INDUSTRIES (SHRI BHUPATHIRAJU SRINIVASA VARMA) (a): As per information received from BHEL, a total of 52,718 EV charging stations are installed on pan India basis as on 29.07.2026. Details of State /UT-wise EVCS installed are provided at Annexure. (b): The information regarding bifurcation of EV charging stations into fast-charging and slow- charging categories is not maintained centrally. (c): Setting up of a charging station is an unlicensed activity and private players can install EV charging stations as per Ministry of Power (MoP) Guidelines dated September 17, 2024. Under FAME-II scheme, responsible agencies are three Oil Marketing Companies namely IOCL, BPCL, HPCL and 5 entities namely REIL, CESL, KSEB, SMC, POWERGRID. Under the PM E-DRIVE scheme, Government of India ministries, Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs), States/Union Territories and PSUs under them are eligible to submit EV PCS proposals to MHI. GoI ministries and States / UTs may appoint nodal agency(ies) to aggregate the demand for EV PCS. These eligible entities may choose to set up, operate, and maintain EV PCS on their own, or engage Charge Point Operators (CPOs) for the same. (d): FAME-I: Out of 479 chargers installed under the scheme, no chargers were installed in Punjab. However, 48 charging stations were installed in Chandigarh under the FAME-I scheme (PIB 19.07.2022). FAME-II: As per inputs received from the three OMCs as on 01.07.2026, a total of 439 EV Public Charging Stations (EV PCS) have been installed in Punjab under the FAME-II scheme. Further, 25 EV PCS have been installed in Chandigarh by other public sector entities.
