1. About Maritime Training Trust (MTT) -
The Maritime Training Trust (MTT) is a charitable trust registered with the Charity

2. Internship at International Maritime Organization (IMO), London -
IMO is taking about 40 to 50 interns every year and MTT may sponsor 4 to 5 interns
from India to the IMO as such an activity is within mandated objectives of the Trust.
3. Requirements for sponsoring of interns at IMO, London given in its website are given
below -
i. Internship has to be sponsored by a member state of IMO or at the request of
universities / higher learning institutes.
ii. In order to apply a fair treatment towards all applicants, the program operates
on a first come first served basis. Starting date are at the beginning of the
month and mid month.
iii. The internship program is solely designed for students undertaking research in the
activities of the organization for the main purpose of writing their dissertation or
to further their own research.
iv. Students should have already obtained a university degree and are studying for
a Masters or PhD degree.
v. The students must provide a summary of their research clearly indicating the
specific areas of the organization’s work which they are researching in the fields
of prevention of pollution from ships, maritime safety, security and related

5. Procedure to be followed by Maritime Training Trust for selection of students for
internship at IMO, London -
a) The application are invited from students who fulfilled the eligibility criteria laid
down by IMO, London to be taken as interns (refer para 3 & 4 above). The
applications for eligible students for sponsorship may please be submitted withfull details supporting their eligibility for internship by 30th September, 2012 / 31st
December, 2012 (as and when they become eligible) for the FY 2012-13.

c) The selection of students for internship at IMO, London will be done by a sub-
committee of Trustees of the MTT and intimation will be give to the selected
student(s).
d) The cost of sponsorship of an intern for two months stay in London (which is the
maximum permitted duration by IMO, London) is estimated at Rs. 6.50 lakhs per
intern.
e) The student will have to bear one third of the cost (Rs. 2.17 lakhs) upfront and the
balance two third will be borne by the MTT. Of this two third, one third of the
above cost will be will be paid on the completion of the internship at IMO,
London and the balance one third of the cost after the student completes his
three months assignment with the DGS or in such organization nominated by the
DGS.
f) The student will be required to work in the DGS or such organization that the DGS
nominates for a period of 3 months after completion of his internship.
6. Number of internships -
The number of internships for students to be sponsored by the MTT for the FY 2012-
13 will be 5.
