NOTIFICATION Whereas the draft of the Karnataka Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Rules, 2023 was published as required by sub-section (1) of section 212 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (Central Act 59 of 1988) in notification No. TD 99 TDO 2021, dated:26-06-2023 in part IV-A of the Karnataka Gazette Extra Ordinary, (Number-250) dated:26-06-2023 inviting objections and suggestions from all persons likely to be affected thereby within thirty days from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette. And Whereas, the said Gazette was made available to the public on 26-06-2023. And whereas, no objections and suggestions have been received by the State Government. Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 65 read with section 212 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (Central Act 59 of 1988), the Government of Karnataka hereby makes the following rules further to amend the Karnataka Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, namely:- RULES 1. Title and Commencement.- (1) These rules may be called, the Karnataka Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Rules, 2023. (2) They shall come into force from the date of their final publication in the Official Gazette. 2. Insertion of new rule 200A.- In the Karnataka Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, after rule 200 the following shall be inserted, namely:- (1)2 “200A, Levy of fine and penalty through Electronic Enforcement Device.- In addition to the Check Report (C.R) and Check Report Cum Receipt (C.R.R) issued at the time of levying fines and penalties under section 200 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (Central Act 59 of 1988), an Officer notified by the State Government is authorised to levy, collect fine and penalty through e-Challen using an Electronic Enforcement Device.
