The Indian Army, under the aegis of Headquarters Uttar Maharashtra and Gujarat
Sub Area (HQ UMANG), organised a ‘Mega Veterans Samman Sampark Rally’ at the
Suresh Bhatt Auditorium, Nagpur, on 8 March 2026. The rally witnessed enthusiastic
participation of approximately 3,000 Ex-Servicemen and their dependents from
seven districts of Vidarbha—Nagpur, Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli,
Amravati and Wardha.
Lieutenant General DS Kushwah, PVSM, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding,
Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa Area, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Addressing the gathering, he reiterated the Army’s unwavering commitment towards
the welfare of Ex-Servicemen (ESM) and assured that their grievances would beaddressed on priority. He emphasised that the Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa Area
remains fully dedicated to the well-being of the veteran community and will continue
to take proactive measures for their welfare.
During the event, the Chief Guest felicitated 20 Veer Naris and Veer Matas and
presented them with gift hampers in recognition of their sacrifices. Wheelchairs and
hearing aids were also distributed to needy Ex-Servicemen and their dependents.
The rally was also attended by Major General Navtej Singh Sohal, SM, General
Officer Commanding, Uttar Maharashtra and Gujarat Sub Area; Shri Navin Reddy,
Joint Commissioner of Police, Nagpur; and Dr Bhimaraya Metri, Director, IIM Nagpur.While addressing the gathering, Major General Navtej Singh Sohal highlighted
several initiatives undertaken to improve facilities at ECHS Polyclinics, Canteen
Stores Organisations (CSOs) and other welfare measures introduced by the Central
and State Governments for the benefit of the Ex-Servicemen community. He also
distributed financial assistance to 10 financially distressed Veer Naris and 10 children
of Ex-Servicemen.
A comprehensive on-the-spot grievance redressal mechanism was established
through dedicated stalls set up by SPARSH, NAMAN Common Service Centre (CSC),
15 Record Offices, PCDA (Allahabad) and the Zila Sainik Welfare Offices of the seven
participating districts, enabling veterans to resolve service-related issues efficiently.
For the benefit of participants, a Medical Camp was organised during the rally,
offering consultations with a Cardiologist, Orthopaedic Specialist (with X-Ray Van),
Ophthalmologist, Gynaecologist and ENT Specialist, along with a Dental Stall
equipped with a dental chair. In addition, Employment and Skill Development stalls,
stalls of the Army Welfare Placement Organisation (AWPO), the Maharashtra Ex-
Servicemen Corporation (MESCO) and banks, among others, were set up to facilitate
employment opportunities, financial services and skill development for veterans and
their families.
Overall, 1,462 grievances of Ex-Servicemen and their dependents were redressed on
the spot, reflecting the Army’s sustained commitment to supporting the veteran
community and ensuring their welfare.
