The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Goa hosted the first Stakeholder Consultation Meeting on the
proposed University Township initiative announced in the Union Budget of 2026-27 by the Government
of India. The initiative, led by the Ministry of Education, aims to establish integrated academic districts
aligned with industrial corridors, drawing inspiration from global models such as Singapore's One-North
and Tsukuba Science City, Japan.
NIT Goa is among nine NITs tasked with preparing the proposal. The concept note was presented by Dr.
Damodar Reddy Edla (CSE dept.) and Director Prof. O. R. Jaiswal, with participation from key
stakeholders including National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR), CSIR-National Institute
of Oceanography (NIO), Goa University, Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani, K. K. Birla Goa
Campus, and State departments.
Deliberations emphasised developing Goa as a distributed University Town by integrating institutions
into a collaborative knowledge ecosystem. Key recommendations included internship programmes, lab
