NIT Goa has successfully conducted one day workshop on "Demystifying AI/ML for
Academia (Pre-summit Workshop-India AI Impact Summit 2026)" on 9th Feb 2026.
India AI Impact Summit 2026 is a major global event scheduled during February 16–
20, 2026, at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, hosted by the Ministry of Electronics
and Information Technology (MeitY).
It marks the first time such a summit is held in the Global South, shifting the
international focus from AI "safety" to "impact" and implementation. It is set to be the
largest global AI gathering, focusing on translating responsible, inclusive, and impact-
driven AI into real-world applications. It emphasizes bridging the gap between
research and policy, specifically for the Global South.In line with India AI Impact Summit, NIT Goa has organized Pre-summit Workshop for
Academia to build a nationwide movement of awareness and participation for Al
Impact Summit 2026. This workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Dileep A D-IIT
Dharwad as Chief Guest, Prof. O. R. Jaiswal-Director NIT Goa and Dr. Veena T-HoD
of CSE Department, NIT Goa. It was attended by more than 150 participants (faculty
and students) from various Higher Educational Institutes in Goa such as GEC Goa,
PCCE Goa, Parul University, RIT Goa as well as DTE Goa.
The objective of this workshop was to expose participants towards the AI/ML for
academia bycovering the needs and opportunities in AL/ML domain, AL/ML aligned
curriculum development for higher education, research and innovation opportunities
in AL/ML and AI impact and applications for social goods towards fulfilling the
sustainable development goals- a key step for Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat
by 2047.
This workshop aimed at capacity building in the domains of AI/ML in line with the
India’s AI mission wherein academia can play a major role. Through this workshop,
the participants have developed an excellent understanding of needs andopportunities in AI/ML domain, and got encouraged to address the various challenges
related to the sustainable developments and also towards further technological
contributions in a region as well national level.
