NTPC Western Region-I celebrated the 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour
and enthusiasm at the NTPC Residential Complex, Mumbai. The celebrations were
led by Shri E. Satya Phani Kumar, Regional Executive Director (West-I), who hoisted
the National Flag and addressed employees, their families and members of the
NTPC community on the occasion.Addressing the gathering, Shri E. Satya Phani Kumar paid tribute to the freedom
fighters, visionaries and martyrs whose sacrifices laid the foundation of an
independent, democratic and self-reliant India. He highlighted the pivotal role of
NTPC in powering the nation’s growth journey and its transformation into an
integrated energy company, contributing to India’s energy security, affordability and
sustainability.
Highlighting NTPC’s recent achievements, Shri Phani Kumar noted that the NTPC
Group has crossed the significant milestone of 90 GW of installed capacity, with
more than 37 GW under construction. The Group has also commissioned more than
12.48 GW of renewable energy capacity, with 16.2 GW of renewable energy projects
under construction, and is progressing towards its target of 60 GW of renewable
energy capacity by 2032. He also highlighted NTPC’s growing presence in nuclear
power and its initiatives in Green Hydrogen, Energy Storage Systems and Pumped
Storage Projects.
Highlighting the performance of the Western Region-I team, he stated that WR-I
achieved 7.85 Billion Units of generation in Q1 FY 2026-27, registering a growth of
7% over the corresponding period of the previous year. He appreciated the strong
operational performance of Solapur and Mouda stations, as well as the contribution
of the region’s gas-based stations towards maintaining grid stability.He also highlighted the region’s commercial achievements, including 100% billing
realisation in both FY 2024-25 and FY 2025-26, along with the signing of Power
Purchase Agreements for major upcoming projects including Sipat-III, Telangana-II,
Lara-III and Nabinagar-II.
Emphasising NTPC’s commitment to inclusive development, Shri Phani Kumar
highlighted the region’s CSR initiatives. WR-I is implementing 59 CSR projects worth
₹139.08 crore across Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Goa and Dadra & Nagar
Haveli, covering areas such as healthcare, education, skill development and
environmental sustainability. The flagship Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM) reached
more than 243 girls this year, with the programme being conducted for the first time
at RGPPL as well.
He further highlighted the contribution of Corporate Communication in
strengthening the organisation’s visibility, reputation and stakeholder connect
through media relations, strategic branding, internal communication and digital
outreach. The Andheri–Versova Metro branding initiative and recognition at the
Tusker Awards for innovative communication were cited as notable achievements of
the region.
Cancer Awareness and Screening Programme Launched
Following the address, a significant healthcare initiative proposed by the Centre for
Cancer Epidemiology (CCE), Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and
Education in Cancer (ACTREC), Tata Memorial Centre, was officially launched.
The one-year cancer awareness and screening programme aims to promote greater
awareness about cancer prevention and early detection among the community.
Through interactive awareness sessions, the programme will educate participants on
cancer risk factors, healthy lifestyle practices and the importance of tobacco and
alcohol cessation. Educational materials in local languages will be used to ensure
wider accessibility and effective community outreach.Speaking on the initiative, Smt. Vandana Chaturvedi, RHoHR, WR-I, said, “Health
and well-being remain an important part of our commitment towards the
communities associated with us. Through this collaboration with Tata Memorial
Centre, we aim to create greater awareness about cancer prevention, encourage
healthy lifestyle choices and promote the importance of early screening. We hope
this initiative will empower individuals and families with the right knowledge and
encourage them to take proactive steps towards better health.”
The initiative reflects NTPC WR-I’s commitment towards preventive healthcare and
community well-being, while strengthening awareness around early detection and
healthier lifestyles.
Cultural Programme and Children’s Participation
Adding to the patriotic spirit of the celebrations, a vibrant cultural programme was
presented by Sakhi Mahila Samiti and the children of Bal Bhavan. The performances
showcased patriotic themes and reflected the spirit of Independence Day, bringing
together members of the NTPC community in celebration of the nation’s rich cultural
heritage.
A fancy dress competition for children was also organised, with young participants
dressed as prominent national leaders. The enthusiastic participation of the children
added colour and energy to the celebrations while providing them an opportunity to
learn about and portray the inspiring personalities who shaped India’s history.
The celebrations witnessed enthusiastic participation from employees, family
members, children and other members of the NTPC community, bringing the NTPC
family together in a spirit of patriotism, unity and collective pride.
The event was attended by Shri Nirbhay Gupta, ED (Nuclear); Shri A. P. Samal, ED
(Nuclear); Smt. Vandana Chaturvedi, RHoHR; Shri Ravinder Sud, GM (Nuclear); Shri
Anand Prakash, GM (NGEL), along with other senior officials of WR-I Headquarters,
Nuclear, NGEL and Inspection, besides employees, family members and other
members of the NTPC community.
The celebrations concluded with a renewed pledge to contribute towards the nation’s
progress through dedication, unity and responsible action, while upholding the
values of excellence, sustainability and service to the nation.
