GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT OF TELECOMMUNICATIONS LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 4062 ANSWERED ON 12TH AUGUST, 2026 5G SERVICE IN DELHI AND MUMBAI †4062. SHRI RAMVIR SINGH BIDHURI: WILL the Minister of COMMUNICATIONS be pleased to state: (a) whether the BSNL is likely to launch 5G services in Delhi and Mumbai and if so, the details thereof; (b) whether the Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) is still operating in Delhi or it has changed to BSNL and if so, the details thereof; (c) the details and number of landline and mobile subscribers of the MTNL currently in Delhi; and (d) whether the number of mobile subscribers is likely to increase after the launch of 5G services in Delhi and Mumbai and if so, the details thereof? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE FOR COMMUNICATIONS AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT (DR. PEMMASANI CHANDRA SEKHAR) (a) In line with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, BSNL, as on 31.07.2026, has installed 98,557 indigenous 4G sites on pan-India basis including Delhi and Mumbai out of one lakh such sites planned, of which 97,213 4G sites are on-air. The equipment is 5G upgradable from technology perspective. (b) & (c) MTNL is operating in Delhi and as on 31.03.2026, in Delhi, MTNL has total 5,71,748 Landline subscribers and 1,33,080 Mobile subscribers. (d) The launch of 5G services in Delhi and Mumbai has the potential to contribute to an increase in the number of mobile subscribers. In addition, an exclusive franchisee network has been established in the Delhi and Mumbai service areas. The number of SIM-selling Points of Sale (PoS) have increased progressively, which has the potential to significantly boost SIM sales and subscriber acquisition in these areas. *****
