AGRO-PROCESSING CLUSTERS IN PUNJAB
3242. SHRI CHARANJIT SINGH CHANNI:
Will the Minister of Food Processing Industries be pleased to state:
(a) the number of Mega Food Parks and agro-processing clusters sanctioned in Punjab
during the last five years;
(b) whether the Government proposes new cold chain or value-addition projects for paddy
and maize producing districts, if so, the details thereof;
(c) the total central assistance released to the State for the said purpose; and
(d) the employment generated through these initiatives?

(a) Since inception of these schemes, the Ministry has sanctioned 3 Mega Food Park
projects and 3 Agro processing cluster projects in the state of Punjab. However, No project has
been sanctioned under Mega Food Park (MFP) and Agro processing cluster (APC) scheme in
the state of Punjab during last five years. The details of Mega Food Parks and Agro-processing
Clusters sanctioned in the state of Punjab along with their status of implementation are
at Annexure-I.
(b) to (d): Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) has been implementing the Central
Sector umbrella scheme called “Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY)” since
2017-18 across the country. The basic objective of the scheme is to ensure overall development
of food processing sector in the country. The scheme aims to achieve the objective by providing
incentives for creation of food processing & preservation infrastructure in the country. The
schemes under PMKSY are demand driven in nature; proposals under the scheme are invited
through Expression of Interest (EOI) for setting up food processing units from all over India
including State of Punjab. The PMKSY has 5 on-going component schemes i.e. Integrated
Cold Chain and Value Addition Infrastructure (ICC), Creation of Infrastructure for Agro
Processing Clusters (APC), Creation / Expansion of Food Processing & Preservation
Capacities (CEFPPC), Operation Greens (OG) and Food Safety and Quality Assurance
Infrastructure [Food Testing Laboratories (FTL Scheme)] to provide financial assistance for
setting up of food processing infrastructure in the country. Under PMKSY component schemes
ministry has sanctioned 74 projects in the state of Punjab. The status of the projects sanctioned
along with Grants in aid released and employment details are at Annexure-II.
