Parliament Question: All India Institute of Ayurveda in Hyderabad

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF AYUSH LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 3644 TO BE ANSWERED ON 13TH MARCH, 2026 “All India Institute of Ayurveda in Hyderabad” 3644. Dr. Mallu Ravi: Will the Minister of AYUSH be pleased to state: (a) whether it is true that a proposal for an All India Institute of Ayurveda in Hyderabad is pending despite repeated requests, if so, the details thereof; (b) whether Nagarkurnool and nearby districts have access to central AYUSH research and training programmes, if so, the details thereof; (c) the details of the timeline for sanctioning national-level AYUSH research institutions in Telangana; (d) the expected outreach plan to improve clinical services in Parliamentary constituencies reserved for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe; and (e) the steps taken by the Government to integrate local AYUSH practitioners into research and training frameworks in this regard? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE (IC) OF THE MINISTRY OF AYUSH (SHRI PRATAPRAO JADHAV) (a) During the presentation of the Union Budget 2026-27 on February 1, 2026 it has been announced to establish three new All India Institutes of Ayurveda (AIIAs). (b) & (c) At present, no proposal is under consideration for setting up an AYUSH Research Institution in Nagarkurnool or its nearby districts. However, the Regional Research Institute (Homoeopathy), Hyderabad and the National Research Institute of Unani Medicine, Hyderabad are located in Hyderabad, Telangana. (d) The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) has undertaken a collaborative research study titled “Impact Assessment of Ayurveda-Based Lifestyle Advocacy and Utilization of Medicinal Plants in Primary Health Care.” with Dr. B.R.K.R. Government Ayurvedic Medical College, one of the participating institutions. Page 1 of 3Incidental Ayurvedic health care services will be provided in the selected Scheduled Caste- dominated area. Awareness will be created on Ayurveda-based lifestyle practices, including Dinacharya, Ritucharya, Pathya-Apathya, to promote health maintenance and disease prevention among the beneficiaries through lectures & Information Education and Communication (IEC) material. From the selected area, 50 families will be adopted. An awareness regarding Ayurveda-based lifestyle advocacy will be developed through Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) modules and awareness lectures. A total of 10 medicinal plants, along with related IEC material will be provided to the adopted families. Awareness will also be created regarding maintenance of medicinal plants and the use of medicinal plants in primary health care. Incidental ayurvedic health care services will be extended to the adopted families. One of the research councils under the Ministry of Ayush namely National Research Institute of Unani Medicine, Hyderabad under Central Council for Research of Unani Medicine (CCRUM) is functioning in the state of Telangana. The Institute is providing clinical services i.e. GOPD, Research OPD, IBT OPD, Geriatric OPD, NCD Clinic etc. to the patients visiting the Institute. The Institute is also conducting School Health programme, Clinical Health Research Programme and Clinical Health Care under Schedule Caste Sub Plan (SCSP). Central Council for Research for Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN) has taken following steps to integrate local Yoga and Naturopathy practitioners into research and training frameworks in the country including Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Parliamentary constituencies: (i) Capacity-building training programmes, (ii) Continuing Medical Education, (CME) programmes, (iii) Research methodology workshops to enhance their scientific skills, (iv) CCRYN also involves practitioners in Collaborative clinical Research projects, multicentric trials, and community-based health programmes to strengthen evidence-based Yoga and Naturopathy practices, (v) Supports participation of practitioners in national conferences, seminars, and propagation activities, (vi) Providing opportunities through its research institutes, OPDs, and Wellness centres for hands-on clinical training and research exposure. (e) The CCRAS has initiated CCRAS Ayurveda Gyan Naipunya Initiative (CCRAS-AGNI) initiative with an intent to mainstream the pragmatic Ayurveda practices through scientific validation and evidence-based appraisal. The objectives of this initiative are as follows- • To promote the culture of reporting of evidence-based practice among the Ayurveda Practitioners. • To provide a platform to the Ayurveda practitioners for reporting their innovative practices & experiences in various disease conditions. • Documentation of the reported successful therapeutic regimens for various disease conditions involving Single drug/ Formulation/ Procedures for the purpose of education and academics. • Identifying the interested Ayurveda practitioners for collaboration of creation of database through applications and capacity building through training in research methods and good clinical practices. • Undertaking research for mainstreaming the pragmatic practices through scientific validation and evidence-based appraisal.
