Parliament Question: Assistance to food processing units in Pune

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF FOOD PROCESSING INDUSTRIES RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 3270 ANSWERED ON 20TH MARCH, 2026 ASSISTANCE TO FOOD PROCESSING UNITS IN PUNE 3270. SMT. RAJANI ASHOKRAO PATIL: Will the Minister of FOOD PROCESSING INDUSTRIES be pleased to state: (a) number of food processing units supported in Pune; (b) whether there is a lack of access to credit and technology to such units, if so, the reasons therefor; (c) the employment generated under such units and measures taken to improve the work culture; and (d) the reasons for low uptake of schemes in the region and steps taken to increase accessibility to Pune region? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR FOOD PROCESSING INDUSTRIES (SHRI RAVNEET SINGH) (a) & (b) : In order to promote and facilitate overall development of the food processing sector, and to address needs of access to credit and technology upgradation of the food processing entrepreneurs, Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) has been incentivizing setting up of such industries through its two Central Sector Scheme viz. Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY), Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industry (PLISFPI) and a Centrally sponsored PM Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme. These schemes are not region or state specific but demand driven and are implemented across the country including Pune district of Maharashtra. The details of food processing projects approved under the schemes implemented by MoFPI in the Pune district of Maharashtra is at Annexure. (c): As on 31.12.2025, 10397 direct/ indirect employment opportunities have been generated from the operational projects under component schemes of PMKSY, 15838 direct/ indirect employment opportunities has been generated under PLISFPI and 4158 direct and indirect employment opportunities have been generated under PMFME scheme in the Pune district of Maharashtra. To improve work culture and enhance productivity, MoFPI supports entrepreneurship training, capacity building programmes and encourages adoption of modern technologies and food safety standards. (d): MoFPI schemes are demand driven in nature.
