ANSWERED ON- 09.03.2026
AUCTIONING OF COAL MINES
1808. SHRI ANIL KUMAR YADAV MANDADI:
Will the Minister of COAL be pleased to state:
(a) whether Government has completed the auctioning process of all coal mines listed under
Coal Mining (Special Provisions) Act, 2015;
(b) if so, the details thereof; and
(c) if not, the reasons therefor?
ANSWER
MINISTER OF STATE FOR COAL AND MINES
(SHRI SATISH CHANDRA DUBEY)
(a) & (b) Out of the total 204 coal mines under the Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Act, 2015,
138 coal mines have been successfully allocated by the Ministry of Coal. Remaining 66 coal
mines could not be auctioned due to following reasons:
42 blocks could not be put up for auction due to constraints, including overlap with Coal Bed
Methane (CBM) blocks, location within notified Eco-Sensitive Zones (ESZ), and presence of
substantial built-up areas etc. which affect mining & statutory clearances.
(c) 24 blocks could not be auctioned despite offering in auctions due to lack of response
primarily on account of limited geological attractiveness, small extractable reserves, adverse
mining conditions or lack of market interest.
