Will the Minister of HEAVY INDUSTRIES be pleased to state:
(a) the current status of development of the Automotive and Aerospace Manufacturing Corridor in
Karnataka, particularly in the Bengaluru region;
(b) the details of aerospace and precision engineering clusters being supported or planned near
Devanahalli, including key infrastructure facilities proposed;
(c) whether the Government is providing or proposes to provide Central assistance for setting up
common testing, certification and validation facilities for automotive, aerospace and advanced
manufacturing units in these clusters; and
(d) the expected impact of these initiatives on investment, employment generation and strengthening
of Karnataka’s role as a national hub for high-value manufacturing
ANSWER

(a): Since Industry is a State subject, the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) does not deal with
establishment of industries in any part of the country including the State of Karnataka. However, The
State Government of Karnataka has informed the following:
i. The State Government has developed Aerospace Park Phase-1 in 1000 acres of land near
Kempegowda International Airport, Wherein 250 acres is earmarked for Aerospace sector
specific SEZ. This park comprises of key A&D players like Collins Aerospace, Dynamatic
Technologies, Centum, Sasmos, Bellatrix, Boeing and many others.
ii. South Karnataka region, particularly Kolar, Chikkaballapur, and Bangalore Rural have a rich
history of Aerospace and Defence excellence. With HAL headquartered here, TASL
establishing final assembly line for C130J, and Air India and Indigo ramping up MRO
operations, South Karnataka is poised to be the epicenter for Aerospace and Defence
manufacturing for India.
iii. Honda Motorcycle and Scooters Pvt. Ltd, Volvo India Pvt. Ltd and other many ancillary
industries have setup their manufacturing facilities in Kolar and Bengaluru Rural District.
(b): The State Government of Karnataka has informed that:
i. The vicinity of Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, has increasingly developed into
an aerospace cluster, supported by the establishment of the KIADB Aerospace Park, airport
based MRO facilities, and interest from aerospace manufacturers. The KIADB Aerospace Park
is located adjacent to the Kempegowda International Airport. Aerospace Phase-2 Park is also
being developed near KIAL.-2-
ii. In addition, Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) projects have been taken up at
Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, strengthening the region's aviation ecosystem.
The projects include MROs of Air India and IndiGo.
iii. Owing to the proximity to the international airport, availability of industrial land and an existing
aerospace manufacturing base, several aerospace and allied companies have expressed interest
in setting up operations and seeking land in and around Devanahalli.
(c): No such proposal for central assistance is under consideration in MHI.
(d): The State Government of Karnataka has informed that:
i. The Aerospace and Defence Policy 2022-27 aims to attract investments of
approximately INR 45,000 crore into the aerospace and defence sector while generating around
60,000 additional jobs. The policy prioritizes the development of Karnataka's MRO and space
applications ecosystem and the strengthening of its R&D infrastructure. Overall, it seeks to
consolidate Karnataka's position as a leading aerospace and defence hub.
