AYUSH activities in Tirupati

Will the Minister of AYUSH be pleased to state:
(a) the details of AYUSH developmental activities undertaken by the Government in the
State of Andhra Pradesh, particularly in Tirupati district during the last five years;
(b) whether the Government has established or proposed to establish any AYUSH
educational or research institutions, wellness centres or hospitals in Andhra Pradesh and
Tirupati district under Central Sector or Centrally Sponsored Schemes and if so, the details
thereof;
(c) the details of financial assistance provided to the State and specifically to Tirupati district
under the National AYUSH Mission (NAM) and other schemes during the said period.
(d) whether the Government is promoting cultivation and value-addition of medicinal plants
in Andhra Pradesh and Tirupati district through support to farmers and entrepreneurs and if
so, the details thereof; and
(e) the number of beneficiaries and areas covered under such initiatives and the steps being
taken to strengthen AYUSH services in rural and tribal pockets of Tirupati district in Andhra
Pradesh?

(a) to (c) Public Health being a State subject, development of Ayush related activities and
establishment of Ayush educational institutions/wellness centres/hospitals in Andhra Pradesh
including Tirupati district comes under the purview of respective State Government.
However, under Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National Ayush Mission (NAM), Ministry is
supporting the efforts of State Government for overall development & promotion of Ayush
systems in the State including Tirupati District by providing financial assistance under
different activities as per the proposals received from State through State Annual Action
Plans (SAAPs) within the existing provisions of NAM guidelines. Under NAM, as per the
proposals received from State through SAAPs, consolidated grant in aid of Rs.2882.592 lakhs
released to Andhra Pradesh during last 05 years. The major activities supported in AndhraPradesh during last 05 years is at Annexure-I and details of funds allocated to Tirupati
District as reported by the State Government is enclosed at Annexure II.
(d) As per the information furnished by the State Government of Andhra Pradesh, The A.P.
Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Board (APMAPB) conducted a Training Programme on
“Nannari- Cultivation, Post Harvest Management and Marketing Opportunities” at RASS-
KVK, Tirupati District of Andhra Pradesh on 25th February-2025. About 60 farmers have
been benefitted through the programme.
Further the National Medicinal Plant Board (NMPB), under the Ministry of Ayush,
implements a Central Sector Scheme for "Conservation, Development and Sustainable
Management of Medicinal Plants". This scheme provides financial support for establishing
various types of Herbal Gardens and for Medicinal Plant Species Specific Campaigns. The
NMPB has supported projects in Andhra Pradesh, specifically in the Tirupati District,
including: One project for establishing an Herbal Garden, with financial support of ₹10.80
Lakhs. One project for an Ashwagandha Campaign, with financial support of ₹18.90 Lakhs in
the state of Andhra Pradesh especially in the Tirupati District.
In past Ministry of Ayush, Government of India had implemented the medicinal
plants component Centrally Sponsored Scheme of the National AYUSH Mission (NAM)
during the financial year 2015-16 to 2020-21 to promote the cultivation of Medicinal Plants
throughout the country. As per the scheme guidelines, the support was provided for:
(i) Cultivation of prioritized medicinal plants on farmer’s land.
(ii) Establishment of nurseries with backward linkages for raising and supply of quality
planting material.
(iii) Post-harvest management with forwarding linkages.
(iv) Primary processing, marketing infrastructure etc.
The detail of fund approved to Andhra Pradesh Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Board
(APMAPB), Andhra Pradesh under Medicinal Plants component of National Ayush Mission
Scheme is at Annexure III.
Further as per the provision of NMPB's Central Sector Scheme for Conservation,
Development and Sustainable Management of Medicinal Plants, Nucleus Centre Maintenance
Grant is provided to SMPBs on annual basis. The Nucleus Centre Maintenance Grant is
released to State Medicinal Plants Board (SMPB) Andhra Pradesh since F.Y. 2020-21 to till
date is at Annexure IV.
National Medicinal Plant Board, Ministry of Ayush also supports various
institutes/organization to organise awareness Capacity Building program, Exposure Visits,
Education and Capacity Building of Stakeholders through Information Education and
Communication (IEC) and encouraging farmers or entrepreneurs to grow medicinal plantsunder Central Sector Scheme (CSS) for conservation, development and sustainable
management of medicinal plants. Details of project supported under IEC activities from the
financial year 2020-21 to 2024-25. The details of support under IEC of NMPB is at
Annexure V.
(e) As reported by the State Government of Andhra Pradesh, the number of beneficiaries and
areas covered under such initiatives and the steps being taken to strengthen AYUSH services
in rural and tribal pockets of Tirupati district in Andhra Pradesh are at Annexure VI.Annexure I
Major initiatives/activities supported in Andhra Pradesh as per the proposals received
from State through SAAPs during last five years including current year:
(i) 02 units of 50-bedded Integrated Ayush Hospitals (IAHs) at Kakinada & Visakhapatnam
have been approved in Andhra Pradesh.
(ii) 4 Ayush Hospitals have been supported for Up-gradation of infrastructure in Andhra
Pradesh.
(iii) 05 Ayush Public Health Programmes have been supported in Andhra Pradesh during last
05 years.
(iv) 126 Ayushman Arogya Mandir (Ayush) and 92 Co-located Ayush facilities have been
supported for supply of essential Ayush medicines on an average in each year in Andhra
Pradesh.
(v) 01 unit supported for establishment of New Ayush Educational in Andhra Pradesh.
(vi) 02 post-graduate have been supported for Upgradation of infrastructure, Library and
other things in Andhra Pradesh.
(vii) out of total 12500 Ayushman Arogya Mandir (Ayush) 126 AAM (Ayush) have been
