AYUSH Doctors and Yoga Instructors
3608. Dr. Kirsan Namdeo:
Will the Minister of AYUSH be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government has formulated any policy to appoint AYUSH doctors and Yoga
instructors/teachers for raising public awareness and providing treatment to poor people in the
tribal areas and villages of the country, State/UT-wise, particularly in Maharashtra;
(b) if so, the details thereof; and
(c) if not, the reasons therefor?
ANSWER

(a) to (c) Public Health being a State subject, the primary responsibility for appointment of
AYUSH doctors and Yoga instructors/teachers for raising public awareness and providing
treatment to poor people in the tribal areas and villages of the country including Maharashtra
lies with respective State Government. However, the Government of India is implementing
Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National Ayush Mission (NAM) through State/UT
Governments and supporting their efforts for operationalization of Ayushman Arogya Mandir
(Ayush) [AAM (Ayush)] by upgrading existing Ayush dispensaries and Sub Health Centres.
These AAM (Ayush) are also being suppurated for deployment contractual Ayush
Doctors/Community Health Officers (CHOs) and part-time yoga instructors as per the
requirement within the existing provisions of guidelines for providing holistic health care
services through different Ayush interventions including Yoga sessions in rural, tribal areas
and villages of the country. Under NAM, 12,500 AAM (Ayush) have been supported across
the country including Maharashtra and as reported by the States/UTs, all are operational. The
State/UT-wise status of approved and functional AAM (Ayush) is furnished at Annexure.
Further, under NAM, State/UT Governments are also being supported for
implementation of dedicated Ayush Public Health Programme by the name of Ayush Mobile
Medical Unit (AMMU) for providing Ayush healthcare services to the doorstep in unserved
and underserved tribal populations through outreach activities. This programme is having the
1provision for support of contractual deployment of Ayush Doctor and Multi-Purpose Worker
(MPW) for effective implementation of the outreach activities. Accordingly, the State
Government may avail financial assistance by submitting suitable proposals through State
Annual Action Plans (SAAPs) as per NAM guidelines.
