AYUSH Wellness Centres in Tribal Area in Assam

Will the Minister of AYUSH be pleased to state:
(a) the total number of AYUSH Health and Wellness Centres sanctioned and operational in
Assam, particularly in the tribal districts of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao of Assam,
district-wise;
(b) the modalities of recruitment and training for medical officers and support staff at these
centres;
(c) whether the Government propose to expand AYUSH infrastructure in underserved tribal
and hilly regions; and
(d) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) Under Centrally Sponsored scheme of National Ayush Mission (NAM), 500 AYUSH
Health and Wellness Centres now renamed as Ayushman Arogya Mandir (Ayush) [AAM
(Ayush)] have been approved in Assam State. As reported by State Government, all AAM
(Ayush) are operational. Out of which, 13 AAM (Ayush) are operational in the Karbi
Anglong District and another 13 AAM (Ayush) are operational in the district of Dima Hasao
of Assam. Further, District-wise status of approved AAM (Ayush) in Assam State is
furnished at Annexure.
(b) Public Health being a State subject, the primary responsibility of recruitment and training
for medical officers and support staff of these centres comes under the purview of respective
State Government. As reported by State Government of Assam, the Community Health
Officers for AAM (Ayush) are recruited on contractual basis and they have mentioned that
recruitment notifications were issued in prominent newspapers, and applications were received
via the online portal. After completion of the recruitment process, the selected candidates had
undergone for 5 days Orientation Training before their deployment.
(c) & (d) Public Health being a State subject, the primary responsibility to strengthen/expand
the Ayush infrastructure in the underserved tribal and hilly regions lies with respective State
Government. However, under NAM, as per the proposals received from State Government of
Assam, one 30 bedded Integrated Ayush Hospital (IAH) at Diphu Karbi Anglong District and
one 50 Bedded IAH in the District Baksa were approved, which are located in hilly and tribal
region of Assam.
