SHRI KALYAN BANERJEE: Will the PRIME MINISTER be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government proposes to setup Bharatiya Antariksh Station (BAS) as a platform for microgravity research and scientific studies in various fields including life sciences and medicines; (b) if so, the present status and the manner in which it will help the human space flight and life support research process thereof; and (c) the details of the module of finance for setting up such station and the foreign technical collaboration thereof? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF PERSONNEL, PUBLIC GRIEVANCES & PENSIONS AND IN THE PRIME MINISTER’S OFFICE (DR. JITENDRA SINGH): **** (a) Yes. As part of the Space Vision 2047, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) aims to establish Bharatiya Antariksh Station (BAS). BAS will provide a platform to undertakemicrogravity research and scientific studies in various fields including life sciences and medicine. (b) ISRO has worked out overall configuration of Bharatiya Antariksh Station comprising of five modules. The overall configuration has been reviewed by the National Level Review Committee. In September,2024, Union Cabinet approved development and launch of first module of Bharatiya Antariksh Station (BAS-01) by 2028 as part of revision in scope of Gaganyaan Programme. Overall system engineering of BAS-01 module and technology development activities of various subsystems are progressing in ISRO Centres/Units. BAS with its technology elements such as advanced life support systems will enable long duration human habitation in Low Earth Orbit (LEO). This will allow undertaking advanced scientific research and technology demonstration activities with potential socio-economic impact in LEO as well as support further Indian human space exploration missions beyond LEO.
