BRICS SUMMIT

Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state:-
(a) The details of the main themes of the BRICS Summit held under the
chairmanship of India;
(b) whether any initiative was taken or agreement was reached during the
BRICS Summit regarding trade among all member nations in their respective
local currencies, if so, the details thereof; and
(c) the details of the current volume of India’s trade with BRICS nations?

1(a) India has chaired BRICS four times so far (2012, 2016, 2021, and now
2026). Each chairship has been guided by a distinct theme that reflects
India’s priorities, as listed below:

(b) There is no agreement within the BRICS framework on trade among all
member nations in their respective local currencies. However, the issue of
local currency financing has been discussed in the context of the BRICS
Interbank Cooperation Mechanism.
(c) Details of Volume of India’s Trade with BRICS nations for the FY 2024-
25 is placed at Annexure I.
