BROADBAND CONNECTIVITY UNDER BHARATNET IN TELANGANA
*251. SHRI RAMASAHAYAM RAGHURAM REDDY:
Will the Minister of COMMUNICATIONS be pleased to state:
(a) whether all villages and Gram Panchayats in Telangana have been provided broadband
connectivity under BharatNet or other Government programmes;
(b) the status of mobile network coverage including 4G and 5G services in Telangana, district-
wise;
(c) the details of telecom infrastructure established in aspirational and rural areas of the State
during the last three years;
(d) whether the Government has received complaints regarding poor telecom connectivity in
tribal and remote areas of Telangana and the action taken thereon; and
(e) the steps taken/being taken to improve digital connectivity, postal infrastructure and telecom
services in Telangana to facilitate digital governance, education, healthcare and economic
development?

1STATEMENT TO BE LAID ON THE TABLE OF LOK SABHA IN RESPECT OF PARTS
(a) TO (e) OF THE LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 251 FOR 05TH AUGUST, 2026
REGARDING “BROADBAND CONNECTIVITY UNDER BHARATNET IN
TELANGANA” ASKED BY SHRI RAMASAHAYAM RAGHURAM REDDY.
(a) The BharatNet Project has been approved for provision of broadband connectivity in a phased
manner to all Gram Panchayats (GPs) in the country, including in the State of Telangana. Further,
the Government has approved the Amended BharatNet Program (ABP) under a design, built, operate
and maintain model to upgrade the existing network created under Phase-I and Phase-II of the
BharatNet Project and to create incremental network for new GPs, its operation and maintenance and
provision of 1.5 crore fiber-based internet connections. As on 30.6.2026, 10,833 GPs had been
connected in Telangana under BharatNet project.
(b) In the State of Telangana 10,022 villages have mobile coverage, out of which 9,929 villages
are covered with 4G/5G connectivity. District-wise details are at Annexure I.
(c) to (e) Government of India through Digital Bharat Nidhi (DBN) has undertaken several
projects for improvement of telecom connectivity in tribal and remote areas of Telangana, as well as
for establishment of telecom infrastructure in aspirational and rural areas in the State of Telangana,
such as Left Wing Extremism (LWE) Phase-I Upgradation, LWE Phase-II Project and 4G Saturation
Project for provision of mobile connectivity and BharatNet Project for provision of broadband
connectivity. Complaints/grievances regarding poor telecom connectivity are addressed in
coordination with Telecom Service Providers (TSPs).
As on 30.06.2026, 412 mobile towers have been commissioned in the State of Telangana
under DBN funded projects, covering 493 villages. The Government of India has approved the
proposal of the Government of Telangana for implementation of ABP in the State and communicated
in-principle approval to the State Government.
The Department of Posts has undertaken several measures to improve postal infrastructure in
Telangana. Advanced Postal Technology (APT) has been rolled out in all the Post Offices in
Telangana Circle. 5,427 Branch Post Offices have been equipped with mobile devices, providing a
unified digital platform for postal, banking, insurance and citizen centric services. Post Office
Savings Bank has been fully computerized on a Core Banking Solution platform offering modern
digital services, including ATM access, DBT payment, internet banking, mobile banking,
NEFT/RTGS, e-Passbook and e-KYC. Additionally, UPI services are also being provided through
India Post Payments Bank -Post Office Savings Account linkage, in all Post Offices in the State of
Telangana. Further, 24/48 Speed Post services have been launched in six metro cities, including
Hyderabad.
