Parliament Question: Capacity Enhancement in the Food Processing Sector

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF FOOD PROCESSING INDUSTRIES LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 1910 ANSWERED ON 30TH JULY, 2026 CAPACITY ENHANCEMENT IN THE FOOD PROCESSING SECTOR 1910. SHRI MAHENDRA SINGH SOLANKY: Will the Minister of FOOD PROCESSING INDUSTRIES be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government has undertaken any initiatives to enhance food processing capacity and value addition for soybean, wheat, pulses, horticultural produce and millets in Dewas–Shajapur Parliamentary Constituency of Madhya Pradesh and if so, the details thereof; (b) the details of food processing units, cold chain, warehousing, Mega Food Park/PMKSY projects and investment approved, sanctioned or projects operational in the constituency during the last five years; (c) whether the Government proposes to establish or support new food processing clusters, millet based processing units and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) in the constituency to reduce post-harvest losses and increase farmers' income and if so, the details thereof; and (d) the details of employment generated, financial assistance provided to micro, small and medium food processing enterprises and the future action plan to strengthen agro-based industries in Dewas-Shajapur? ANSWER THE MINISTER FOR FOOD PROCESSING INDUSTRIES (SHRI CHIRAG PASWAN) (a): In order to promote and ensure overall development of Food Processing Industries including processing of soybean, wheat, pulses, horticultural produce and millets, Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) has been incentivizing setting up/ expansion of related infrastructure, through its two Central Sector Schemes viz. Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY), Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Food Processing Industry (PLISFPI) and a Centrally sponsored scheme PM Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME). These schemes are demand driven and implemented across the country including Dewas-Shajapur Parliamentary Constituency of Madhya Pradesh State. MoFPI, through its schemes, is helping strengthening of food processing/ preservation infrastructure and thereby reducing gap between production and processing capacity. Under PMKSY, financial assistance is provided to entrepreneurs for setting up of food processing industries. Completed projects under component schemes of PMKSY have resulted in creation of about 241.55 Lakh Metric Tonnes (LMT) of processing capacity per annum across the country, out of which processing capacity of 1.99 LMT per annum has been created in Dewas district of Madhya Pradesh.(b) to (d): MoFPI does not setup any food processing Industries on its own. However, it incentivizes setting up of such industries including millet based units, through its three schemes and thereby help in increasing the income of the farmers. No projects for millet processing has been approved in Dewas Parliamentary Constituency of Madhya Pradesh under PMKSY.
