MEDHA VISHRAM KULKARNI: Will the Minister of PORTS, SHIPPING AND WATERWAYSbe pleased to state: (a) whether it is a fact that India recorded a historic cargo movement of 145.5 million tonnes on national waterways during FY 2024–25, indicating significant growth in inland water transport; (b) if so, the extent to which this growth has benefited Maharashtra’s logistics and maritime sector, particularly cargo handling at Jawaharlal Nehru Port and minor ports; (c) whether any proposals exist to connect industrial and export hubs such as Pune and Nashik with inland waterways or multimodal terminals to reduce logistics costs; and (d) if so, the details and timelines thereof? ANSWER MINISTER OF PORTS, SHIPPING AND WATERWAYS (SHRI SARBANANDA SONOWAL) (a) India has recorded a cargo movement of 145.84 million tonnes (MT) on National Waterways (NWs) during 2024–25, reflecting a growth of 706% as compared to the movement of 18.1 MT in 2013-14. (b) A total of 66.12 MT cargo has moved through the National Waterways in Maharashtra during 2024-25, which is 45.33% of the total cargo movement through National Waterways in the country. The NW-10 (Amba River) is connected with Mumbai Port and 16.18 MT cargo has been handled through Mumbai Port Authority anchorage. Details of cargo movement on Maharashtra Waterways during 2024-25 is given at Annexure-1. (c) No Sir.
