Will the Minister of AGRICULTURE AND FARMERS WELFARE कृषि और ककसान
कल्याण मंत्री be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government is aware that Sitapur Lok Sabha Constituency is an
agriculture-dominated and majorly rural area, where a large number of farmers are
dependent on traditional farming and no agricultural university exists in surrounding area,
if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether the Government proposes to set-up a Central Agricultural University in
Sitapur Lok Sabha Constituency with the objective of increasing farmers’ income,
disseminating modern agricultural techniques, strengthening agricultural research and
providing higher education in the field of agriculture to the local youth, if so, the details
thereof; and
(c) if not, whether the Government is contemplating setting up of the said university
in future developmental action plans and if so, the details thereof?

QUESTION NO. 252 TO BE ANSWERED ON 10TH MARCH, 2026 REGARDING
“CENTRAL AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY IN SITAPUR”
(a) to (c): Yes, Sitapur Lok Sabha of Uttar Pradesh is an agriculture-dominated
constituency with majorly rural area.
In the state of Uttar Pradesh, there are 01 Central Agricultural University, 02
Central Universities with Agriculture Faculty, 01 Deemed University and 05 State
Agricultural and Allied Sciences Universities, catering the agricultural research,
education, extension and training needs of the state including Sitapur district, namely:
I. Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University, Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, (4
constituent colleges).
II. Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi (Central University with 01 Agriculture
Faculty).
III. Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh (Central University with 01 Agriculture Faculty).
IV. ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute, (Deemed University), Izzatnagar,
Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh.
V. Acharya Narendra Deva University of Agriculture and Technology, Kumar Ganj,
Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, (7 constituent colleges).
VI. Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur, Uttar
Pradesh, (8 constituent colleges).
VII. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut, Uttar
Pradesh, (5 constituent colleges).
VIII. Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Pashu Chikitsa Vigyan Vishwavidyalaya Evam Go-
Anusandhan Sansthan, Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, (2 constituent colleges).
IX. Banda University of Agriculture and Technology, Banda, Uttar Pradesh, (6
constituent colleges).
In addition to these Universities, the state has following 13 ICAR Institutes, namely:
I. ICAR-Central Avian Research Institute, Izatnagar, Bareilly.
II. ICAR-Central Institute of Subtropical Horticulture, Lucknow.
III. ICAR-Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research, Lucknow.
IV. ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetics Resources, Lucknow.
V. ICAR-Central Agroforestry Research Institute, Jhansi.
VI. ICAR-Indian Grassland and Fodder Research Institute, Jhansi.
VII. ICAR-Indian Institute of Pulses Research, Kanpur.
VIII. ICAR-Indian Institute of Vegetable Research, Varanasi.
IX. ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Goats, Makhdoom, Mathura.
X. ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Cattle, Meerut.
XI. ICAR-Indian Institute of Farming Systems Research, Modipuram, Meerut.
XII. ICAR-Indian Institute of Seed Science, Mau.
XIII. ICAR-National Bureau of Agriculturally Important Microorganisms, Mau
2There are 18 ICAR Regional Stations/Projects and 89 Krishi Vigyan Kendras
(KVKs) in the state of Uttar Pradesh (02 KVKs in Sitapur), which are disseminating
modern knowledge, strengthening agricultural research and higher education in the field
of agriculture to the local youth for better employability.
At present, there is no proposal to set up Agricultural University in Sitapur district.
The agriculture including agricultural education is a state subject, therefore, State
Government may establish new agricultural university as per requirement.
