GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 1738 TO BE ANSWERED ON 13/02/2026 CENTRAL AND STATE SHARE UNDER THE RURAL EMPLOYMENT GUARANTEE SCHEMES 1738 Dr. John Brittas: Will the Minister of Rural Development be pleased to state: (a) total States’ share contributed under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) during the last five years, State-wise and year-wise, details thereof; (b) total Central share disbursed under MGNREGS during the last five years, State-wise and year-wise, details thereof; and (c) the amounts anticipated by the Ministry as the States’ and Central share under the new Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission(Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) Act, 2025, for the next financial year, the details thereof, State-wise? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT (SHRI KAMLESH PASWAN) (a): Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (Mahatma Gandhi NREGS) is a demand driven wage employment Scheme. Under the provisions of the scheme, 100% of expenditure of the wage and administrative component is borne by the Central Government. Whereas 75% of the expenditure under the material component is borne by Central Government and 25% is shared by the States/UTs. Details of the funds released by the State/Union Territory (UT) under Mahatma Gandhi NREGS during the last five financial years are given at Annexure-I. (b): State/Union Territory (UT)-wise details of total central funds released under Mahatma Gandhi NREGS during the last five financial years is given at Annexure-II. (c): The Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin): VB-G RAM G Act, 2025, provides to every rural household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work, not less than one hundred and twenty-five days of guaranteed wage employment in a financial year. As per Sub-section (4) of Section 22 of the Act, 'The Central Government shall determine the State-wise normative allocation for each state based on objective parameters as may be prescribed by the Central Government. As per Section 22 of the Act, the Scheme implemented under the Act shall be a Centrally Sponsored Scheme and the fund-sharing pattern between the Central Government and the State Government shall be 90:10 for the North-Eastern States, Himalayan States (Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir) and Union Territory and 60:40 for all other States and Union Territories with legislature. ***** Page 1 of 3Annexure-I Annexure referred to in reply to part (a) of Rajya Sabha Unstarred Question No. 1738 dated 13.02.2026.
