(a) & (b): The Government of India, through the Central Silk Board (CSB), is implementing the Silk
Samagra-2 scheme for the overall development of the sericulture sector in the country, including Tamil
Nadu. During the last three years an amount of Rs.126.71 crore has been released to Tamil Nadu State as
central assistance.
(c): Tamil Nadu is a major traditional mulberry silk-producing State and ranks second in bivoltine
silk production in the country. Sericulture is practiced by about 28,000 farm families across several
districts of the State. The state has multiple silk reeling and weaving clusters. The Central Government
has extended support for establishment of 18 Automatic Reeling Machine (ARM) units in the State
under the Silk Samagra-2 scheme since 2021-22.
