SHRI MURASOLI S: Will the Minister of COAL be pleased to state: (a) the quantum of coal allocated to thermal power plants supplying electricity to Tamil Nadu during the last five years; (b) the details of average delivered cost of coal to such plants during the same period; (c) whether the Government proposes to reduce the dependence on coal for electricity generation due to the environmental impact; and (d) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor? India has already achieved the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) goal of 50% of its installed electric power capacity from non-fossil fuel sources; five years ahead of the committed timeline of 2030. As on 30.06.2026, the installed electricity generation capacity is 548.85 GW, comprising 251.48 GW (45.82%) from fossil sources and 297.37 GW (54.18%) from non-fossil sources. In the State of Tamil Nadu, as on 30.06.2026, a cumulative capacity of 29,776.52 MW Renewable energy has been installed which includes 14,121.46 MW Solar Power, 2,203.20 MW Large Hydro Power, 12,273.69 MW Wind Power, 123.05 MW Small Hydro Power and 1,055.12 MW Bio-Power. *****
