179. SHRI DAGGUMALLA PRASADA RAO:
Will the Minister of TRIBAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state:
(a) the number of Centres of Excellence (CoEs) that are operational in the country and their locations, along
with the facilities available in these institutions/schools;
(b) the amount of funds provided to these CoEs, CoE-wise and year-wise;
(c) whether the Government plans to set up new CoEs in Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs);
(d) if so, the criteria adopted for setting up CoEs in EMRSs; and
(e) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) Currently, 14 Centres of Excellence (CoEs) are operational in Eklavya Model Residential Schools
(EMRS). Of these, 03 CoEs are located at EMRS Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), EMRS Chintapalle (Andhra
Pradesh), and EMRS Chankapur (Maharashtra). The remaining 11 CoEs are located in EMRSs in
Telangana.
These EMRSs are equipped with smart boards and high-speed internet connectivity, and academic content is
provided free of cost to students. In addition, EMRS Chintapalle and EMRS Chankapur function as
broadcasting hubs, delivering live JEE/NEET preparatory lectures on a pan-India basis, thereby supporting
the academic preparation of all desirable/suitable EMRS students across India.
(b) These CoEs are either run under CSR initiatives or covered under recurring cost component. The
details of funds provided is not maintaned centrally.
(c) to (e) Identification and operationalisation of CoEs is a continuous process based on the availability of
requisite infrastructure and academic facilities within the schools.
