Will the Minister of PETROLEUM AND NATURAL GAS be pleased to state:
(a) the number of Compressed Biogas (CBG) plants sanctioned in Kerala by Indian Oil
Corporation Limited (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Hindustan
Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL);
(b) whether the Government maintains any district-wise list of sanctioned Compressed Bio Gas
(CBG) plants by Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) in the State of Kerala and if so, the
details thereof;
(c) whether the Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant of BPCL in Cochin, Kerala is currently
operating at a capacity of 75 tonnes per day and if so, the time by which its capacity will be
increased to 150 tonnes per day; and
(d) whether any proposals from the Government of Kerala or local bodies for setting up
Compressed Biogas (CBG) plants with the assistance of PSUs are pending with the Union
Government and if so, the details thereof along with the action taken/to be taken in this
regard?

(a) to (d) As per the GOBARdhan portal, in Kerala, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited,
(BPCL) is setting up 1 Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant at Kochi designed to operate at a
capacity of 150 tonnes per day of segregated Municipal solid waste (MSW) to produce CBG
and Biomanure. The plant is under pre-commissioning stage. In addition, BPCL has signed a
concession agreement for setting up one more MSW based CBG plant at Kozhikode.
No proposal from the Government of Kerala or local bodies for setting upCBG plants
is currently under consideration of Government.
