Parliament Question: Construction of Kendriya Vidyalaya in North West Delhi

Shri Yogender Chandolia: Will the Minister of EDUCATION be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government is aware that North West Delhi is one of the most populous Parliamentary Constituencies in the country with over 40 lakh residents and a large number of Central Government employees, defence personnel and students but has only limited number of Kendriya Vidyalayas; (b) if so, the details of existing Kendriya Vidyalayas in North West Delhi district along with student-teacher ratio and waiting list for admission during the last three years; (c) whether the Government has received any proposal/request for opening of new Kendriya Vidyalaya in areas like Narela, Bawana, Rohini, Kanjhawala or Alipur of North West Delhi; (d) if so, the present status of the said proposal and the criteria for opening a new Kendriya Vidyalaya; (e) whether the Government is considering to sanction at least four new Kendriya Vidyalayas in North West Delhi; and (f) if so, the details thereof? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION (SHRI JAYANT CHAUDHARY) (a) to (f) Opening of new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) is a continuous process. KVs are opened primarily to cater to the educational needs of the wards of transferable Central Government Employees including Defence & Para-Military personnel, Central Autonomous Bodies, Central Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and Central Institute of Higher Learning (IHL) by providing a common programme of education throughout the country. Proposals for opening of new KVs may be sponsored byMinistries or Departments of the Government of India/State Governments/ Union Territories Administrations, with commitment to provide requisite extent of land, free of cost, and suitable rent-free temporary accommodation for setting up a new KV, as per Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) norms. KVs are not opened on the criteria of population/ area/ Parliamentary Constituency /District or State/UT. As per the information received from KVS, 47 KVs are presently functioning in Delhi, out of which, 10 KVs are already functioning in the Parliamentary Constituency of North-West Delhi, namely, PM SHRI KV, Sector-3, Rohini; PM SHRI KV, Sector-8, Rohini; KV, Sector-22, Rohini; PM SHRI KV, Sector-25, Rohini; PM SHRI KV, Sector-28, Rohini; PM SHRI KV, Sainik Vihar; PM SHRI KV, Paschim Vihar; PM SHRI KV, Air Force Station (AFS), Bawana; PM SHRI KV, Narela; and PM SHRI KV, Shalimar Bagh. At present, there are 06 KVs functioning in North West District, Delhi, namely: PM SHRI KV Sector-3 Rohini, PM SHRI KV Sector-8 Rohini, KV Sector-22 Rohini, PM SHRI KV Sector-25 Rohini, PM SHRI KV Sector-28 Rohini, and PM SHRI KV Sainik Vihar. The consolidated Student-Teacher Ratio across these 06 KVs is 29:1. Furthermore, as per the available records with KVS, the total number of applicants waitlisted for admission to Class I and Balvatika in these 06 KVs during the last three academic sessions is as follows: Academic The total number of Session applicants waitlisted for admission to Class-I and Balvatika (*) 2024–25 16,825 2025–26 15,909 2026–27 13,019 (*) The above waitlist figures are consolidated and hence may have repetitions/ duplications as the same applicant is included in the waitlists of more than one KVs, since each applicant is allowed to opt for admission in up to three KVs of his/her choice through a single online application. As per the information received from KVS, no feasible proposal for the opening of new KVs in the Narela, Bawana, Rohini, Kanjhawala, and Alipur areas of North West Delhi has been received from the Government of the National Capital Territory (GNCT) of Delhi/District Administration.*****
