CONSTRUCTION OF NEW POST OFFICE BUILDINGS

Will the Minister of COMMUNICATIONS be pleased to state:
(a) the number of new post office buildings constructed across the country during the last five
years, State-wise and year-wise, particularly for Andhra Pradesh;
(b) whether the Government has identified any existing post offices operating out of rented or
inadequate premises and if so, the number of such post offices, district-wise for Andhra Pradesh along
with timeline for shifting those to permanent buildings;
(c) whether the Government has received any proposals from State Governments for
construction of new post office buildings in underserved or rural areas and if so, the details thereof;
(d) the details of total budget allocated and utilised for construction of new post offices and
upgradation of existing ones during the last five years, year and State-wise; and
(e) whether the Government has any plans to open new post offices in aspirational districts or
newly urbanising areas and if so, the details thereof including the criteria for selection?

(a) to (e) OF THE LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO.148 FOR 10TH DECEMBER,
2025 REGARDING “CONSTRUCTION OF NEW POST OFFICE BUILDINGS.”
(a) Details of number of new post office buildings constructed across the country during the last
five years, State-wise and Year-wise are at Annexure I.
(b) The Post Offices in Andhra Pradesh, operating out of rented premises are identified for
shifting to permanent buildings whose details are at Annexure II.
(c) No Sir.
(d) Total Budget allocated and utilised for construction of new post offices and upgradation of
existing ones during the last five years, Year-wise, State-wise, details are at Annexure III.
(e) No Sir.
Note: -
i. Sikkim, Andaman & Nicobar are part of West Bengal Circle.
ii. Goa is part of Maharashtra Circle.
iii. Puducherry is part of Tamilnadu Circle.
iv. Lakshadweep is part of Kerala Circle.
v. Chandigarh is part of Punjab Circle
vi. Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Damn & Diu is part of Gujarat Circle
vii. Ladakh is part of Jammu & Kashmir Circle
viii. Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland and Tripura are part of
