CONSUMPTION OF FINISHED STEEL AND DIGITAL TRACKING MECHANISMS
3705. SHRI ASHOK KUMAR RAWAT:
Will the Minister of STEEL be pleased to state:
(a) the total consumption of finished steel in the infrastructure and manufacturing
sectors during the first quarter of the previous financial year; and
(b) the current status of the implementation of Digital Tracking Mechanisms and
Emission Monitoring Systems?

(a)&(b): Steel demand in India is driven by construction sector, which accounts for
37% of steel consumption, followed by 30% by infrastructure, 17% by engineering,
appliances and packaging, 11% by automobile and 5% by the other sectors. India’s
finished steel consumption was 164.36 million tonnes in 2025-26. For emission
monitoring, the steel sector follows the methodology of Bureau of Energy Efficiency.
Under Carbon Credit and Trading System (CCTS), Government has set up
Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emission target for Financial Year 2026-27 for 255 large steel
production units.
