**Policy Summary: Infrastructure Development for Transmission Systems in Telangana**
On July 24, 2025, the Ministry of Power addressed Lok Sabha Unstarred Question No. 759 regarding infrastructure development for transmission systems in Telangana. The Government of Telangana, through TGTRANSCO, TGDISCOMs, and TGSLDC, submitted nine proposals in 2022-23 to the National Load Despatch Centre (NLDC) for funding under the Power System Development Fund (PSDF), totaling Rs. 487.99 crore.
The proposals included:
1. Renovation and upgradation of the protection system and replacement of substation equipment in TGTRANSCO 400kV and 220kV substations.
2. Strengthening of the 220kV Nagaram-Warangal DC line using HTLS conductor.
3. Remote access to Disturbance Recorders (DRs) and Event Loggers (ELs) in TSTRANSCO.
4. Automation of 21 Extra High Tension (EHT) substations in TSTRANSCO.
5. Establishment of a Next Generation Security Operation Centre (SOC) at TGSLDC.
6. Reactive Power Management via Capacitor Bank installation at 33/11kV substations by TGNPDCL.
7. Installation of 301 capacitor banks at various 33/11kV substations of TSSPDCL.
8. Voltage profile improvement by installing 25 capacitor banks at 33kV level at various EHT substations in TGTRANSCO.
9. Implementation of Automatic Generation Control (AGC) at TSSLDC.
The Techno-economic Sub Group of PSDF examined these proposals. However, the Monitoring Committee of PSDF, in its meeting on June 13, 2025, prioritized investment support for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and strengthening of State Load Despatch Centres (SLDCs). The committee advised that project entities implement regular investment proposals using their own resources and recover costs through tariffs.
