Executive Summary & Key Takeaways

**Summary:** This document summarizes the response provided by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Steel to Lok Sabha Unstarred Question No. 4280, answered on August 19, 2025, regarding Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects undertaken by Steel Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) over the last ten years. The response indicates that Steel PSUs conduct CSR activities in accordance with Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013, focusing on education, health, women empowerment, rural development, sanitation, and environmental sustainability. These projects are primarily located in the vicinity of steel plants, mines, and townships and have been implemented across several states, including Andhra Pradesh. However, the Ministry of Steel does not maintain state-wise, district-wise, or constituency-specific data for these projects. While CSR initiatives broadly benefit local communities, including Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and women, particularly in areas surrounding Steel CPSE operations, the exact number of beneficiaries, disaggregated by district or for the Bapatla Lok Sabha Constituency, is not maintained, as projects are community-oriented rather than individual-specific. CSR funds are not allocated state-wise. Projects are primarily carried out in the periphery of steel plants, townships and mines, which are predominantly inhabited by Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes and Backward population. Based on reports from Steel PSUs, there are no CSR projects pending over the last ten years.
