STARRED QUESTION NO.*268 ANSWERED ON 17.03.2026 RAISED BY DR. MEDHA
VISHRAM KULKARNI, HON’BLE M.P. REGARDING “DEVELOPMENT OF VADHAVAN
PORT IN MAHARASHTRA”
(a)Vadhavan Port phase–I facilities were originally scheduled for completion by 2029–30 and phase–
II by 2039-40. However, owing to delays in land acquisition and other factors, the implementation
timeline for Phase-I has been revised to 2031–32. Tenders have already been invited for common
infrastructure works, including breakwater construction and land reclamation.
(b) At present, 12 projects are under implementation in the State of Maharashtra with financial
assistance from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways under the Sagarmala Programme.
These are in addition to the development of the deep-draft, all-weather port at Vadhavan.
(c) Jawaharlal Nehru Port is well connected with National Highways and Railways. Further, the
Port, in collaboration with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), has undertaken the
development of Multi-Modal Logistics Parks (MMLPs) at Jalna, Wardha, and Nashik in Maharashtra.
These initiatives are aimed at strengthening multi-modal connectivity and reducing logistics costs for
industrial hubs, including Pune.
