Will the Minister of ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE be pleased to
state:
(a) whether the Government has reviewed the implementation, achievements and
environmental impact of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, if so, the details thereof;
(b) the number of saplings planted and their survival rate, along with the progress achieved,
State/UT and Block-wise particularly in Rajasthan, Surguja District of Chhattisgarh,
Nabarangpur and Sidhi Lok Sabha Constituencies including the details of participation of
tribal communities, Gram Panchayats, Schools, Self Help Groups and other institutions;
(c) the specific measures taken to boost public participation and institutional collaboration
involving Panchayati Raj Institutions, Urban Local Bodies, schools and corporate entities;(d) the details of special mechanism established for geo-tagging of plantations, digital
monitoring, survival assessment, long-term protection and maintenance to ensure effectiveness
and sustained environmental benefits under the campaign;
(e) the details of contribution of the campaign towards increasing green cover, restoring
degraded landscapes, conserving biodiversity and achieving India's climate commitments; and
(f) whether any special action plan or financial and technical assistance is being provided to
promote indigenous species and water conservation in arid and desert regions like Kutch, if so,
the details thereof?

(a) to (e): The 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign launched on 5 June 2024 on the occasion of
World Environment Day promotes tree plantation as a people's movement to enhance
environmental awareness and increase green cover across the country. The campaign is
implemented through a Whole-of-Government and Whole-of-Society approach with the active
participation of Central and State Governments, educational institutions, business
establishments, non-governmental organisations, environmental groups and the general public.
Plantation and maintenance activities are primarily undertaken by the State Governments.
State-wise details of saplings planted during 2026–27 (as on 05.08.2026) are at Annexure-A.
As informed by the State Forest Department of Madhya Pradesh, 9,16,563 saplings have been
planted in the Sidhi Lok Sabha Constituency under the campaign. As per data uploaded on the
Meri LiFE Portal by the State Forest Departments, 29,773 saplings have been planted in
Surguja district of Chhattisgarh and 7,28,062 saplings in Nabarangpur district of Odisha
during 2026–27. District-wise details of saplings planted in Rajasthan are provided at
Annexure-B. Information regarding survival rate, block-wise plantation details and
participation of tribal communities, schools, and other institutions are maintained by the
respective State Governments/UT Administrations and is not maintained centrally.
Plantations undertaken under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign are uploaded on the Meri
LiFE Portal. Plantations carried out by the State Forest Departments and Union Territories at
various sites are geotagged, monitored, and survival assessments are undertaken by the
States/UTs in accordance with the extant norms and procedures.
The campaign promotes community participation in tree plantation and conservation, thereby
supporting restoration of degraded landscapes, enhancing green cover, improvement of local
ecological conditions and strengthening of biodiversity through increased tree cover. It also
contributes to environmental awareness and citizen participation, thereby supporting India's
climate commitments.
(f): As informed by the State Forest Department of Gujarat, a Project Management Action
Plan has been prepared under the JICA-assisted Project for Ecosystem Restoration in Gujarat
(PERG Project) for undertaking native tree plantation and soil and moisture conservation
measures in the Vav–Tharad area adjoining the Kutch region. In addition, the State ForestDepartment undertakes plantation of indigenous species and implements soil, moisture and
water conservation measures as part of plantation activities in the Kutch region.
