Parliament Question: Electric Vehicle Charging Stations at Petrol Pumps in Tiruchirappalli

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF HEAVY INDUSTRIES LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 3683 ANSWERED ON 11.08.2026 ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING STATIONS AT PETROL PUMPS IN TIRUCHIRAPPALLI 3683. SHRI DURAI VAIKO: Will the Minister of HEAVY INDUSTRIES be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government has any proposal to increase the number of Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations at petrol pumps in Tiruchirappalli district, Tamil Nadu, in view of the growing adoption of electric vehicles; (b) the details of number of EV charging stations presently functioning at petrol pumps in Tiruchirappalli district and the number proposed to be established during the next three years; (c) whether the Government is providing any financial assistance or incentives to Oil Marketing Companies and private fuel retail outlets for establishing EV charging infrastructure; (d) whether the Government proposes to encourage the installation of fast-charging stations at all major petrol pumps along National Highways and urban areas in Tiruchirappalli to improve EV accessibility; and (e) if so, the details thereof including the timeline for implementation? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR HEAVY INDUSTRIES (SHRI BHUPATHIRAJU SRINIVASA VARMA) (a) to (e): Setting up of a charging station is an unlicensed activity and private players can install EVCS as per Ministry of Power (MoP) Guidelines of September 17, 2024. Further, as per information received from the three OMCs namely BPCL, IOCL and HPCL, a total of 79 EVPCS have been installed in Tiruchirappalli district of Tamil Nadu under the FAME-II scheme out of which, 69 EVPCS are operational as on 01.08.2026. Further, Rs.2,000 crore has been allocated under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme for the deployment of fast EVPCS on a pan India basis, including major petrol pumps along National Highways and urban areas. As on 31.07.2026, proposals from 10 states namely UP, Rajasthan, Gujarat, AP, Telangana, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Odisha and the three OMCs namely BPCL, IOCL and HPCL have been approved under the PM E-DRIVE scheme for deployment of 7,254 EV chargers. As per inputs received from BHEL, these 3 OMCs have not submitted any proposal to increase the number of Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations at petrol pumps in Tiruchirappalli district, Tamil Nadu under the PM E-DRIVE scheme. The timeline for the implementation of the PM E-DRIVE scheme is up to 31.03.2028. *******
