ANSWER
MINISTER OF STATE FOR ELECTRONICS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
(SHRI JITIN PRASADA)
(a) to (d): Driven by Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat,
Government of India has taken several policy initiatives to develop a complete ecosystem of
electronics manufacturing. As a result of these initiatives, electronics manufacturing in India has
expanded significantly in the last 11 years, which can be seen from the following statistics:
# 2014-15 2024-25 Remarks
Production of electronics ~1.9 Lakh Cr ~11.3 Lakh Cr Increased 6 times
goods (Rs.)
Export of electronics goods ~38 thousand Cr ~3.27 Lakh Cr Increased 8 times
(Rs.)
The mobile production and exports in the last 3 years are as follows:
# 2014-15 2024-25 2025-26 (upto Sep
2025) *
Production of mobile phones (Rs.) ~0.18 Lakh Cr ~5.5 Lakh Cr 9.34 Lakh Cr.
Export of mobile phones (Rs.) ~0.01 Lakh Cr ~ 2 Lakh Cr 5.12 Lakh Cr
* Economic Survey 2025-26India has witnessed a remarkable growth in the mobile phone manufacturing and exports in last
decade and mobile manufacturing has played an anchor role in the growth of the Indian Electronics
ecosystem. This can be seen from the following:
• India has emerged as the 2nd largest mobile manufacturer in the world.
• India has reached a stage where ~99% of mobile handsets being sold in India are ‘Made in
India’ (in volume terms).
• This is a remarkable shift from FY 2014-15, when around 74% of mobile phones sold in India
were imported. Now, India has become a net exporter of Mobile Phones from being an importer
in 2014.
• As per industry estimates, electronics sector employs approximately 25 lakh people.
The Economic Survey 2025-26 notes that electronics exports reached $22.2 billion in the first half
of FY26, which would soon propel the sector to be the 2nd highest export category by value.
To provide plug-and-play manufacturing infrastructure with ready land, utilities, and common
facilities, reduce setup time, and enhance production efficiency, Government also launched
Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMC and EMC 2.0) Scheme. Under EMC and EMC 2.0
schemes, total 30 Greenfield Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMCs) and 5 Common Facility
Centers (CFCs) have been established across 18 States in the country.
As of now, these clusters have mobilized investments of more than Rs. 30,000 crore and generated
employment around 90,000 jobs.
