ENQUIRY COMMISSION REGARDI NG INDUSTRIAL ACCIDENT IN
VISAKHAPATNAM STEEL PLANT
329. THIRU THANGA TAMILSELVAN:
Will the Minister of STEEL be pleased to state:
(a) whether it is true that an industrial accident at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP)
that claimed the lives of nine workers and left five others seriously injured;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the Union Government has appointed any enquiry commission to find out
the cause of such accident and poor management of the steel plant;
(d) whether the Union Government has initiated any disciplinary action against officials
linked to production and quality control operations of the plant; and
(e) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?
ANSWER

MINISTRY OF STEEL
(a)to(e): An accident occurred at Steel Melting Shop (SMS-2) of Steel Plant of
Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd., Vishakhapatnam on 08th June, 2026, resulting in spillage
of molten steel. In this accident, ten (10) workers comprising of five (5) Regular
Employees and five (5) Contractual Workers lost their lives and four (4) Regular
Workers sustained injuries.
A high Level Enquiry Committee chaired by Director-in-Charge of Bokaro Steel
Plant of Steel Authority of India Limited(SAIL)
along with outside Experts, was constituted by Ministry of Steel. The report of
Enquiry Committee has been received and appropriate action has been initiated.
