ESTABLISHING HEAVY INDUSTRIES IN PURULIA
†1590. SHRI JYOTIRMAY SINGH MAHATO:
Will the Minister of HEAVY INDUSTRIES be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government is aware that despite having mineral wealth, adequate land, and a
significant geographical location in Eastern India, no major heavy industry could be established
in Purulia district so far, affecting local employment and industrial development;
(b) whether any proposal to provide land for the establishment of any large industry in Purulia
district has been sent by the State Government to the Union Government during the last five
years;
(c) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor; and
(d) whether the Government proposes any special action plan to develop Purulia from an
industrial perspective?
ANSWER

(a): Since, Industry is a State Subject as per the Seventh Schedule to the Constitution of India,
the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) does not maintain any centralized data relating to the
establishment of heavy industries in any part of the Country including Purulia district.
(b): No such proposal has been received in this Ministry.
(c): Does not arise.
(d): No such proposal is with this Ministry.
