Parliament Question: Establishment of Kendriya Vidyalayas in Biswanath

Shri Ranjit Dutta: Will the Minister of EDUCATION be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government is aware that Biswanath district of Assam, despite having a growing population and a large number of transferable Central Government employees, does not have a Kendriya Vidyalaya, causing hardship to the children of such employees, if so, the details thereof; (b) whether the Government has received any proposal or has any plan to establish a Kendriya Vidyalaya in Biswanath district; (c) if so, the present status including the proposed timeline for its approval and establishment; and (d) if not, the reasons therefor? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION (SHRI JAYANT CHAUDHARY) (a) to (d) Opening of new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) is a continuous process. KVs are opened primarily to cater to the educational needs of the wards of transferable Central Government Employees including Defence & Para-Military personnel, Central Autonomous Bodies, Central Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and Central Institute of Higher Learning (IHL) by providing a common programme of education throughout the country. Proposals for opening of new KVs may be sponsored by Ministries or Departments of the Government of India/State Governments/ Union Territories Administrations, with commitment to provide requisite extent of land, free of cost and suitable rent-free temporary accommodation for setting up a new KV, as per Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) norms. At present, 59 KVs are functioning in the State of Assam. As per information received from KVS, no proposal for opening of a new KV at Biswanath district of Assam has been received by KVS from the concerned State Government / district administration. *****
