Parliament Question: Establishment of Mega Food Parks or agro-processing clusters in western Odisha

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF FOOD PROCESSING INDUSTRIES RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO: 3903 ANSWERED ON 27TH MARCH, 2026 ESTABLISHMENT OF MEGA FOOD PARKS OR AGRO-PROCESSING CLUSTERS IN WESTERN ODISHA 3903. SMT. SULATA DEO: Will the Minister of FOOD PROCESSING INDUSTRIES be pleased to state: (a) whether Government has any plan to establish mega food parks or agro-processing clusters in Western Odisha; and (b) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR FOOD PROCESSING INDUSTRIES (SHRI RAVNEET SINGH) (a) & (b): he Ministry of Food Processing Industries was implementing the Mega Food Park Scheme (MFPS), a component scheme under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY) from 2008 to 31.03.2021. The scheme has been discontinued by the Government w.e.f. 01.04.2021 with provision for committed liabilities during 15th Finance Commission cycle. Hence, no such plan to establish new MFPs. Ministry does not set up Mega Food Parks on its own, it invites proposals from interested entities/organizations through Expression of Interest (EoI) floated from time to time, in accordance with scheme guidelines. However, Ministry has approved 2 Mega Food Park projects in the state of Odisha. Details of Mega Food Park Projects approved under the Mega Food Park Scheme in the state of Odisha along with their status of implementation are at ANNEXURE I. Further, the Agro-Processing Cluster (APC) Scheme, another component of PMKSY, aims to create modern infrastructure and common facilities for food processing industries in a cluster-based approach, with a minimum land requirement of 10 acres. The scheme is ongoing. Similar to MFPS, the Ministry does not set up APCs on its own but invites proposals from all over India through EoI as per the scheme guidelines. The Ministry has approved one APC project in the State of Odisha.
