ANSWER
MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION
(SHRI JAYANT CHAUDHARY)
(a) to (g) Opening of new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) is a continuous process. KVs are
opened primarily to cater to the educational needs of the wards of transferable Central
Government Employees including Defence & Para-military personnel, Central
Autonomous Bodies, Central Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and Central Instituteof Higher Learning (IHL) by providing a common programme of education throughout
the country. Proposals for opening of new KVs may be sponsored by Ministries or
Departments of the Government of India / State Governments / Union Territories (UTs)
Administrations, with commitment to provide requisite resources including land and
temporary accommodation for setting up a new KV as per norms. The proposals are
subject to approval of the competent authority as per extant procedures. KVs are not
opened on the criteria of rural/urban/backward districts/aspirational district/State/UT
etc.
At present, 63 KVs are functional in the State of Maharashtra including 02 KVs
in Washim-Yavatmal Parliamentary Constituency i.e. PM SHRI KV, Washim and KV,
Yavatmal. All KVs are affiliated to CBSE by providing a common programme of
education throughout the country.
As per information received from Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), no
feasible proposals, as per norms of KVS, for opening of new KVs have been received
by KVS from State Government of Maharashtra/District Administrations.
The proposals received from the sponsoring authorities for opening of new KVs
are examined / processed at various levels and are required to be considered in a
holistic manner in accordance with the extant guidelines, inter alia taking into account
various factors including the availability of resources and overall feasibility.
Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) is a centrally sponsored
scheme which aims to strengthen more than 14,500 schools from amongst the existing
schools managed by Central Government/State/UT Government/local bodies.
Under PM SHRI scheme, the selection of PM SHRI schools is done through the
Challenge Mode, wherein schools compete for support to become exemplar schools.
The criteria adopted by the Government for selecting the schools under the PM SHRI
scheme are provided under “Selection Methodology” of the PM SHRI Framework,
available at the link: https://pmshri.education.gov.in/assets/pdf/part1_pmshri.pdf.
Under PM SHRI scheme, a total of 946 schools including 52 KVs have been
selected from the State of Maharashtra. The details of PM SHRI schools may be
accessed on the website of PM SHRI scheme at the link:
