SHRI DURAI VAIKO: Will the Minister of Education be pleased to state: (a) whether the proposal for the establishment of a satellite campus of the Central University of Tamil Nadu at Suriyur is under the consideration of the Government; (b) if so, the present status of the proposal along with the reasons for the delay in according the necessary approval; (c) whether the Government proposes to expedite the proposal by granting the requisite administrative and financial approvals, if so, the details thereof; and (d) the likely time for according approval and commencing the establishment of the proposed satellite campus? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION (Dr. SUKANTA MAJUMDAR) (a) to (d): Central University of Tamil Nadu submitted proposals for the development of various infrastructure projects – construction of new Academic Building, Hostels for Boys and Girls, Scientific Instrumentation Centre, expansion of the Administrative Building, Faculty and Staff Residences, Research Scholars’ Hostel and Skill Development Centre. These proposals were examined and the Ministry of Education approved projects with a total outlay of Rs.385.27 crore through the Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA) for comprehensive infrastructure expansion at the Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN), Thiruvarur. In order to prioritise the comprehensive expansion of the main campus, with the goal of making it a state-of-the-art facility through enhanced infrastructure development, the University was advised to strengthen skill development courses with the ongoing programme in the main campus. *****
