Parliament Question: Expansion of 4G/5G Mobile Connectivity in Warangal

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF COMMUNICATIONS DEPARTMENT OF TELECOMMUNICATIONS LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 4086 ANSWERED ON 12TH AUGUST, 2026 EXPANSION OF 4G/5G MOBILE CONNECTIVITY IN WARANGAL 4086. DR. KADIYAM KAVYA: WILL the Minister of COMMUNICATIONS be pleased to state: (a) the status of expansion of 4G/5G mobile connectivity in Warangal district during the last three years particularly in rural and tribal areas and if so, the details thereof; (b) the details of number of mobile towers sanctioned, installed and operational under various Central Government initiatives including the Digital Bharat Nidhi (formerly Universal Service Obligation Fund); and (c) the steps taken to eliminate mobile network black spots and improve telecom coverage in the district? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE FOR COMMUNICATIONS AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT (DR. PEMMASANI CHANDRA SEKHAR) (a) to (c): As of June 2026, of the 218 villages in Warangal district (as per the data of the Registrar General of India), 217 villages have mobile connectivity, 216 villages have 4G connectivity, and 47 villages have 5G connectivity. As on 30.06.2026, 1,074 4G Base Transceiver Stations (BTSs) and 239 5G BTSs are providing connectivity in Warangal district including rural and urban areas. Mobile coverage for any uncovered inhabited villages is provided by the Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) based on the techno-commercial viability. Government has approved various schemes with funding from Digital Bharat Nidhi (DBN), for expansion of telecom connectivity through installation of mobile towers in the uncovered rural and remote areas of the country. As on 30.06.2026, under these Government-funded mobile connectivity schemes, 4G mobile services have been provided in one village, namely Mahadevuniguda, in Warangal district of Telangana. Further, the Government has approved the Amended BharatNet Programme for providing high-speed fiber broadband connectivity to all the Gram Panchayats (GPs), and non- GP villages on demand basis. During June 2026, 178 GPs are operational in Warangal district under BharatNet. *****
