As of October 2025, in the North Eastern States including Assam, 43,088 villages are covered with 4G and 5,606 villages are covered with 5G out of a total of 45,934 villages, according to Registrar General of India data. In Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao, 2,886 villages are covered with 4G and 108 villages are covered with 5G out of a total of 3,017 villages. The Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) provide mobile coverage for uncovered inhabited villages based on techno-commercial viability. Will the Minister of COMMUNICATIONS be pleased to state:
(a) the present status of 4G and 5G network expansion in the rural and remote areas of Assam
and other North Eastern States, especially Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao;
(b) the steps being taken to address network coverage gaps in hilly and border districts; and
(c) whether the Government has set any timeline for universal mobile coverage in the region
and if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (c) As of October, 2025, 43,088 villages and 5,606 villages out of a total of 45,934
villages (as per data of Registrar General of India) are covered with 4G and 5G mobile connectivity
respectively in the North Eastern States including State of Assam. Further, 2,886 villages and 108
villages out of a total of 3,017 villages are covered with 4G and 5G mobile connectivity respectively
in the district of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao.
