Expansion of AYUSH Services
1336. Smt. Geniben Nagaji Thakor:
Will the Minister of Ayush be pleased to state:
(a) the number of AYUSH hospitals, dispensaries and medical colleges in the country, State/
UT-wise and Stream-wise;
(b) whether there has been expansion of AYUSH services in the rural and tribal areas across
the country; and
(c) if so, the details thereof along with the details of financial assistance provided for the same
in this regard?

(SHRI PRATAPRAO JADHAV)
(a) The total number of Ayush Hospitals, Ayush dispensaries and Ayush Medical colleges in
the country, State/UT-wise and Stream-wise as on 01.04.2023, as reported by State/UT
Governments is furnished at Annexure –I, II & III respectively.
(b) Under the National Ayush Mission (NAM), Ministry of Ayush is supporting the efforts of
State/UT Governments to expand Ayush services across the country, including in rural and
tribal areas, by providing financial assistance based on the proposals received through State
Annual Action Plans (SAAPs). This support includes colocation of Ayush units at Primary
Health Centres (PHCs), Community Health Centres (CHCs) and District Hospitals (DHs),
establishment of 10/30/50 bedded Integrated Ayush Hospitals, establishment of new Ayush
dispensaries, upgradation of Ayush hospitals and dispensaries, establishment of Ayush
educational institutions, upgradation of Ayush under-graduate institutions, upgradation of
Ayush postgraduate (PG) institutions including add-on PG, pharmacy and paramedical courses,
and upgradation of existing Ayush dispensaries into Ayushman Arogya Mandir (Ayush) to
deliver comprehensive primary healthcare services.
Further, under NAM, State/UT Governments are being supported for implementation
of various structured Ayush public health programmes in different parts of the country,
including rural and tribal areas, to address the healthcare needs of the population by leveraging
the preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative potential of Ayush systems, either asstandalone interventions or as add-ons to conventional healthcare. These programmes include
the National Programme for Prevention and Management of Osteoarthritis and other
Musculoskeletal Disorders, integration of Ayush with the National Programme for Prevention
and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS), SUPRAJA
for strengthening Ayush-based maternal and neo-natal interventions, VAYO MITRA for
Ayush geriatric healthcare services, AYURVIDYA for promotion of healthy lifestyle among
school children through Ayush, Ayush Mobile Medical Units for healthcare delivery in
underserved, remote and tribal areas, KARUNYA for Ayush palliative care services, and the
National Programme on Ayush for Morbidity Management and Disability Prevention (MMDP)
of Lymphatic Filariasis (lymphoedema). Through these interventions, there has been a
sustained expansion of Ayush services in the country, including across rural and tribal areas,
thereby improving access to holistic healthcare services for the masses.
(c) Under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of the National Ayush Mission (NAM), the Ministry
of Ayush has approved 203 Integrated Ayush Hospitals (IAHs) for establishment, 21 Ayush
educational institutions, and 384 new Ayush dispensaries based on the proposals received from
States/UTs through their State Annual Action Plans (SAAPs). The State/UT-wise list of
Integrated Ayush Hospitals, Ayush Dispensaries and Ayush Educational Institutions supported
for establishment in the country under NAM during 2014-15 to 2024-25, is furnished at
Annexure-IV.
Further, under NAM, a total grant in-aid of Rs. 1032.86 crore, Rs. 179.21 crore and Rs.
81.55 crore has been approved to the State/UT Governments for establishment of Integrated
Ayush Hospitals, Ayush educational institutions and Ayush dispensaries, respectively, during
the period from 2014-15 to 2024-25.
