EXPANSION OF COIMBATORE AND SALEM AIRPORTS
545. DR. THIRUMAAVALAVAN THOLKAPPIYAN
Will the Minister of CIVIL AVIATION
be pleased to state:-
(a) whether the Government has any proposal to expand Coimbatore and Salem Airports;
(b) if so, the details thereof along with the expected timelines fixed in this regard; and
(c) whether the Government has acquired or proposes to acquire land for expansion of the
said Airports and if so, the details thereof?

RESPECT OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 545 FOR REPLY
ON 02.04.2026 REGARDING EXPANSION OF COIMBATORE AND
SALEM AIRPORTS ASKED BY DR. THIRUMAAVALAVAN
THOLKAPPIYAN;; ; ; (a) to (c): The proposal for construction of a New
Integrated Terminal Building (T3), along with additional apron bays, at
Coimbatore Airport is presently at a preliminary stage in the Airports Authority
of India (AAI), subject to receipt of requisite Government approvals,
availability of land, and statutory/regulatory clearances. In this regard, Airports
Authority of India (AAI) had requested 627.89 acres of land from the State
Government, out of which 620.22 acres have already been handed over. For the
expansion of Salem Airport, 460 acres of land including 177 acres of land for
phase-1 development, was requested from the State Government of Tamil Nadu
by AAI. The required land is yet to be handed over by the Government of Tamil
Nadu.
