Will the Minister of JAL SHAKTI be pleased to state:
(a) the number of rural households provided with Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs)
so far in Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) along with
the percentage coverage of total rural households thereunder;
(b) the key steps and innovations adopted by the Union Government and the State Governments to
achieve the ‘Har Ghar Jal’ target in Chhindwara district and the estimated timeline fixed for
achieving universal coverage in the said district; and
(c) the current status of providing tap water connections in Government schools and Anganwadi
centres in Chhindwara district and the action plan made to cover the remaining institutions?

(a) to (c) Government of India is implementing Jal Jeevan Mission, in partnership with States to
make provision of tap water connection to every rural household of the country, including those in
the Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh.
At the start of the Mission, in Chhindwara district, around 0.88 lakh rural households were reported
to have tap water connections. So far, as reported by the State, around 2.14 lakh rural households
have been provided with tap water connections under JJM. Thus, as on 28.01.2026, out of 3.52 lakh
rural households in the district, more than 3.02 lakh (85.84%) are reported to have tap water supply
in their homes and works for the remaining households are at various stages of implementation.
Similarly, State has reported tap water supply connection in 2,244 (69.88%) schools and 1,245
(59.06%) anganwadi centres in Chhindwara district.
Drinking water being a State subject, under JJM, responsibilities for planning, approval,
implementation, operation and maintenance of drinking water supply schemes lie with State/ UT
governments. Government of India supplements the efforts of the State/ UT government by
providing technical and financial assistance. As numerous projects are implemented concurrently
Page 1 of 2at various levels across the States for achieving the envisaged objectives, project-wise details of
individual projects/ schemes for rural water supply projects are maintained at the State Government
level.
A number of steps have been taken to plan and implement JJM in the whole country including
Madhya Pradesh, with speed, inter alia, including joint discussions and finalization of saturation
plans and annual action plans (AAP) of States/ UTs, regular review of implementation, workshops/
conferences/ webinars for capacity building, training, knowledge sharing, field visits by multi-
disciplinary team to provide technical support, etc. A detailed Operational Guideline for the
implementation of JJM; Margdarshika for Gram Panchayats & VWSCs to provide safe drinking
water in rural households and Guidelines on a special campaign to provide piped water supply in
anganwadi centres, ashramshalas and schools have been shared with States/ UTs to facilitate
effective planning and implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission. For online monitoring, JJM–
Integrated Management Information System (IMIS) and JJM–Dashboard has been put in place.
Provision has also been made for transparent online financial management through Public Financial
Management System (PFMS).
Further, to achieve 100 per cent coverage through continued implementation of mission with focus
on quality of infrastructure and Operation & Maintenance of rural piped water supply schemes for
long term sustainability and citizen centric water service delivery, Hon'ble Finance Minister during
her budget speech 2025-26 has announced extension of Jal Jeevan Mission until 2028 with
enhanced total outlay.
