FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR BENGALURU METRO PROJECT
NO. 3343. SHRI P C MOHAN:
Will the Minister of HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS be pleased to state:
(a) the details of financial support committed by the State Government of
Karnataka for various phases of the Bengaluru Metro Rail Project including
the percentage share of cash support provided so far;
(b) whether the State Government is providing or has committed to provide
any “shadow cash support” or indirect financial guarantees for the project
and if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether such cash support or shadow support from the State Government
is mandatory under the financial structuring of metro rail projects under
the guidelines prescribed by the Union Government and if so, the details
thereof; and
(d) the total amount of financial support, equity contribution and other
assistance provided by the State Government of Karnataka for the
Bengaluru Metro project till date, phase-wise?
ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE
MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS
(SHRI TOKHAN SAHU)
(a): Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has informed
that Government of Karnataka (GoK) has committed Rs 31,534 crores for
various phases of Bangalore Metro, which is 41.73 % of the total cost.
(b)& (c): As per Tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed
between Government of India, State Government of Karnataka and
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), State Government of
Karnataka is required to finance the cash losses, if any during the
operational phase in case the same cannot be provided by BMRCL. BMRCL
has informed that till 05.03.2026, GoK has disbursed an amount of Rs.
5,066.65 crore to Bangalore Metro Rail Project in respect of Debt
repayment and Cash loss reimbursement.
(d): The details of funds released by the State Government of Karnataka
for construction of Bangalore Metro Rail Projects till 05.03.2026 is
enclosed as Annexure-I.
