Executive Summary & Key Takeaways

**Policy Summary: National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM) and Firefighting Suits** This document summarizes the Indian government's efforts, under the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM), to promote domestic production and export of technical textiles, specifically focusing on firefighting suits. **Domestic Production of Firefighting Suits:** The NTTM, launched to develop the technical textiles sector, funded a project awarded to the Northern India Textile Research Association (NITRA), Ghaziabad, in 2023. NITRA successfully developed a cost-effective firefighting suit, comparable in quality to imported alternatives, and has transferred the technology to a domestic manufacturer for scaled-up production. **Impact on Import Dependency:** The NTTM has approved 168 research projects, some strategically aimed at indigenously producing specialty fibers and high-end technical textile products, reducing reliance on imports, especially for items with restricted export from manufacturing countries. **Export Promotion:** A key objective of the NTTM is to boost technical textiles exports. An Export Promotion Council has been established under the Mission to achieve this goal. In FY 2024-25, India's technical textiles exports reached INR 24,732.68 Crore, representing a 15.53% increase over the previous year and an 11% Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) over the past four years. **Export Growth (INR in Crores):** | FY 2020-21 | FY 2021-22 | FY 2022-23 | FY 2023-24 | FY 2024-25 | |------------|------------|------------|------------|------------| | 16,100.51 | 21,194.64 | 20,095.55 | 21,407.36 | 24,732.68 | **Year-over-Year (YoY) Growth:** | FY 2021-22 | FY 2022-23 | FY 2023-24 | FY 2024-25 | |------------|------------|------------|------------| | 31.63% | -5.18% | 6.52% | 15.53% |
